Contemporary Hobbies You Can Practice at Home (Part One)

So what can you do at home? The hobbies that come to mind when you think of a hobby to do at home are cooking, learning an instrument or knitting, which are three really classic hobbies to do at home. But there are more contemporary hobbies that you can now do at home. What are they? Well, let’s find out in this article! Enjoy your reading.

Create a YouTube channel

YouTube is a massive trend today, so why not try creating a channel on a particular topic you love? It’s a great way to express your creativity and connect with people around the world who have similar interests to you.

Combining your passion for YouTube with another hobby also works well. If you love sewing, your channel can be dedicated to that subject! You don’t have to be good at making videos in the beginning, if you keep at it, you will get better!

A camera can be a good alternative, but if not, movies can also be made with only a microphone and then pictures. Look on the Internet for a free “film editing program” that works on your computer.

Start a Blog or Website

It’s nice to spend time on an activity that doesn’t need other participants. For those of us who like to spend time alone, writing is a great way to relax: just me, my imagination and a blank sheet of paper.

This hobby can be as inexpensive as you like, all that is needed is a computer or paper and pen. If you like writing on paper, it’s worth investing in a nicer pen.

Today, you can also create a website and a blog without any programming knowledge.  If you are interested, you can search on YouTube or Google for guides on how to create a WordPress website. WordPress is the most popular framework for creating text-based websites online (and it’s free!).

Build Furniture or Buy and Refurbish Furniture and Sell It

A big trend is to get closer to creating furniture. Building furniture from scratch may require a few tools. But buying furniture and refinishing it and then trying to resell it can be an easier hobby to start.

For example, imagine buying a used cabinet online, picking it up, then sanding and repainting it. Giving new life to something old can bring tremendous satisfaction.

Start Weight Training at Home

Getting out and working out or strength training in all its glory, but why not do it at home? You can either use your body or acquire weights to work with. Dumbbells and a yoga mat can be a great place to start, which you can then expand to your heart’s content to make it your own home gym!

Yoga is Another Great Option

Yoga improves strength, balance and flexibility. Slow movements and deep breathing increase circulation and reduce stress. Improve your posture, balance, calmness and strength.

One study found that 12 minutes of yoga poses, every day or two, improved bone health in practitioners. And another small-scale study showed that 20 minutes of yoga improved concentration and working memory.

Watch videos on YouTube or other similar sites to find yoga programs to follow at home. No equipment is needed to get started!

Make Your Own Ceramics

You can actually technically start by making ceramics at home with just clay, a ceramic wheel and a kiln, but there are endless tools that can help you create more precise, well-formed and professional ceramics. If you’re interested in this hobby, look online or in stores for a home ceramics kit!

Now, you have some inspirations to start doing modern hobbies at home. Do you already have another hobby? Tell us more about it in the comments below!
